MASSIVE BALLERINA (PIROUETTES FOR MILLENNIA)
In a dream I heard the most beautiful song ever created... the song was perfect, it was mysterious, and it was endless.
It was the number pi, sung.
But in the dream the song didn't feel mathematical or abstract; it was very emotional, meaningful and passionate... I couldn’t even really hear the numbers, it was more a connection to the energy conveyed through the syllables of the words of the numbers... like when you hear a song in a different language, contemporary or ancient, which makes you vibrate like a tuning fork because of the emotion in the unknown words.
(I never attempted to record pi as a song, but I did write a story about it. A songwriter is facing writer’s block, and depression. In a very low moment, in order to sing something, anything, she starts to sing pi. When she stops, she notes where she left off, and the next time she sings she starts there. The melody changes, but circles back and through motifs, even as the number lyrics constantly change. She sings the sequencess of ongoing numbers daily, sometimes as a short morning mantra, sometimes as a vocal warm up. She records a full choral version with twelve-person choir. She always sings the next series of numbers, never repeats. She performs the sequences in her concerts, she sings it as a lullaby to her kids, she sings it to her husband, at his request, as he lay dying in a hospital years later. And her daughter, also a musician, begins to sing the next series of numbers at her own mother’s funeral…)
So for "Massive Ballerina (Pirouettes For Millennia)" I wanted to see if an obvious computer-generated voice could sing an emotionally transcendent song. (It’s not pi, but maybe a.i.)

LYRICS:
intimately, beneath a digital moon
fractal flowers, in full bloom
sway back and forth as one
infinitely dreaming of the analog sun
massive ballerina, on a dark stage
pirouettes for millennia
starred arms out, awaiting a hero
only to embrace endless night
and absolute zero
